“Let me start off by saying I wish I had contacted One Green Step sooner. We never realised how many unnecessary resources we used or how to make it stop. Needless to say, our utility companies hit us with thousands of dollars for bills which we had paid for years.
Kirsten personally conducted a home sustainability assessment. It took approximately an hour or two and was very comprehensive. She identified several places where water, gas and electricity use was high and gave us real solutions and practical strategies to reduce our wast and cut our bills. I was so relieved!
We immediately implemented the recommendations given to us in our Home Sustainability Report and also with Kirsten’s own personal suggestions, we have seen immediate results. By altering our energy use behaviours according to this plan, we have reduced our energy use by 55%!

Our home is more comfortable and cheaper to maintain
“Having Kirsten over to assess our home was fantastic. Now we have a home that is more comfortable to live in and cheaper to maintain! Some suggestions she made were simple and free, such as blocking up unused chimneys, to other simple observations like blocking gaps in our doorways. Now our home feels cosier and we need to use less heating!
The timers for the kids’ oil heaters was a great tip. Now they don’t accidentally leave them on all day, instead they wake up easier because their room is warm in the morning, as the timers switch on at 6am and off at 7.15! The husband is not so sure about the shower timer but that’s a standing joke.
We have actioned these and many other great suggestions. I can only say it’s been easy and worthwhile.”

We’ve changed the way we use our home
“We really appreciated the insight and information Kirsten gave us when she conducted the sustainability assessment on our home. Since the assessment our family has changed the way we use the lights in our home (we have a mix of energy efficient fluoros and too many halogens) to reduce our energy consumption. We have started replacing halogens with more efficient LED downlights at Kirsten’s suggestion.
The assessment process and report were very thorough, and very thought provoking and have helped us change the way we use our home.”
